Iguazu Falls – A Water Wonder World

Foz de Iguazu

THE visit to Iguazu was one of the main things I was looking forward to most on the trip.
But even I didn’t understand just how amazing it would be until I was stood in front of it.

Just walking down the steps into the main viewpoint made the 10 hour journey all the more worthwhile. The sheer size of the waterfalls is incredible and the sound of fast rushing water fills the air.
Walking along the path I found myself stopping every five minutes to take pictures to make sure I got every good angle.

I walked across a bridge into a part they call Devil’s Throat – to get a close up view of the falls. Here you are guaranteed to get soaked with the wind spraying water from the falls.

I could easily have spent hours sat watching the water gushing down from the rocks into the pit below…..but on the first day we had only visited the Brazil side of the falls.

The next day we headed across the border to Argentina (sadly only for a few hours) to see the falls from another angle and had to get used to speaking Spanish instead of Portuguese.

A good six hours could easily have been spent here and I still found myself saying “wow” every time we saw it from another angle. You’d think I’d be bored of the water by the second day.

In the Argentinian side you can take a canoe along the top to see the wildlife that lives among the falls or take a speedboat right into the middle of the larger waterfalls.

Donning a fetching, bright orange life jacket and with a waterproof bag for my belongings we headed down to the water and sped into the heart of the waterfalls.

The sound of the water was deafening, (and sometimes painful as it pounded against your skin) and as much as I tried to open my eyes and look at the water falling above me, the sheer force of it meant you struggled to lift your head.

It’s fair to say everyone who took the speed boat got completely drenched. But with 33oc heat and the sun beating down on us it didn’t take long to dry off.

Standing in front of the falls and seeing it for all its beauty, it is easy to see why it has been nominated to become one of the new seven wonders of the natural world.

It is truly spectacular.

A great few days were topped off with a hotel rooftop party and caprininhas – courtesy of our personal barman, Hernan (our tour leader). 😉

Next stop, across another border to Paraguay.

  1. Pictures are beautiful!

I cannot wait to get the opportunity to visit Iguazu falls; I’ve heard pictures don’t do them justice, and if the pictures themselves are that breath-taking, I cannot even imagine how amazing the view will be in person.

Ps. You misspelled the name in the title (obviously a typo, as you spelled it right in the rest of the post), just so you know!

  2. Wow dheeds!! I genuinely thought I was reading an extract from a published novel whilst reading this entry. They are a millions time better than the lame travel accounts I’m studying in English!! Anyways loving the bloging and hope you are all good, having a fabulous time 🙂 lots of love!! X
